Created in collobration with Elaine Guilding.
Two themes were ordered: Jesus in today's community (Shirehampton), and the great Bristol-based Methodists John Wesley and Francis Asbury. Wesley was the founder of Methodism, and his minister colleague Asbury sailed from Pill in 1771, crossed the Atlantic and founded the prolific Methodist church in the USA. The final design was the result of exhaustive discussion between Bill, Elaine and the vicar Jackie Quarmby.
In the mural Asbury is depicted sailing past Shirehampton and out of the estuary at Avonmouth under the M5 bridge into the sunset bound for the New World. On another wall, a contemporary-looking Jesus is depicted in jeans on park bench sharing food with homeless people
